String-Sorting using Python 3.3
Trying to write a function to sort a given string by letters. My current output is:
def sort_string(str):
letters = list(set(str))
letters.sort()
return letters
This is just a prototype. I'm not looking for a definitive answer here, just some guidance on how I can improve the code so I know what I'm doing.
A:
I would use string.split() to split the string by the separator (in this case the " " character).
Create a list of lists containing the individual pieces (if more than one word is separated, that would be separated into a different list), then sort that list by the string's alphabetical order, and then put it all back together.
from string import *
def sort_string(input):
words = string.split(input)
words.sort()
str = "".join(words)
return str
To test it out:
>>> sort_string("some string")
'th i i n s t h i s s n '
